The OM8831-51 is a high-power, high-efficiency Front-End Module (FEM) for GSM850 / EGSM900 and DCS1800 / PCS1900 operation. The FEM supports Class12 General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), EDGE multi-slot operation. This FEM builds upon OnMicro’s unique power amplifier architecture technology to provide maximum efficiency and output power, integrated over-current and over-voltage regulating technology stable ruggedness and TRP performance under load mismatch. The FEM also offers a complete switching solution for advanced 2G/3G/4G cellular handsets. It provides 16 TRX RF switch ports covering all 3G/4G bands from 700MHz through 2300-2700MHz.
The OM8831-51 uses a MIPI RFFE interface for PA and switch controls. With support of downlink inter-band Carrier Aggregation (CA), three switching blocks separated into 7 LB ports, 5 MB ports and 4 HB ports. Each switch block has an integrated directional coupler that may be monitored on the CPL port with selectable forward or reverse directionality. The FEM provides simultaneous LB/MB/HB reception required for downlink CA at Triple-Ant port ANT_LB/MB/HB.
The module provides 50 Ω impedance at input and output ports, consists of a CMOS PA including a Controller, a SP16T RF switch with integrated Tx low pass harmonic filtering can achieve best harmonic performance. The OM8831-51 supports both the Linear Mode operation standard and VRAMP-BASED operation facilitating various platforms application implementation. This FEM can sustain 8 KV ESD at Antenna port, without external components needed, and also guarantees robust 12 : 1 VSWR on Antenna Port under load mismatch condition.
